Keyboard Shortcuts
TextExpander offers several keyboard shortcuts to help you work faster. Some are available right away and others can be customized to the hotkey of your choice.
Built-In Shortcuts
These shortcuts are available as soon as you install TextExpander, with no configuration needed.

Notes: Command+K also works in the TextExpander web app. In the Chrome Extension, Control + Period also opens a list of recently used Snippets and AI-powered Snippet Recommendations, in addition to Inline Search.
Customizable Hotkey Keyboard Shortcuts
Hotkeys are a combination of keys which, when pressed at the same time, provide quick access to a particular function, such as Control+C (Windows) and Command+C (Mac) for copy. TextExpander offers several functions via hotkey. The following actions can be assigned Hotkeys:

| Open TextExpander | Displays the main TextExpander window. Useful on Mac if the Dock icon and menu bar icon are hidden. |
| Enable/Disable TextExpander | Temporarily stops TextExpander from expanding abbreviations. Press the shortcut again to re-enable. |
| Create New Snippet | Opens the Snippet editor. |
| Create Snippet from Clipboard | Opens the Create Snippet window with your current clipboard content pre-filled. |
| Edit Last Expanded Snippet | Opens the Snippet you most recently expanded for editing. Learn more. |
| Quick Action | Opens the Quick Actions menu. Learn more. |
How to set or change a shortcut
- Go to TextExpander > Preferences > Hotkeys.
- Select Set Hotkey next to one of the options to set the Hotkey. To change an existing hotkey combo, select the reset button, then select Set Hotkey.
- Press a key combination that includes Command (Mac), Alt (Windows), Control, Option and/or Shift, plus any letter or number to set your hotkey. For example, Control+Shift+S.
- Click on Change Hotkey.
To change an existing shortcut, select the reset button next to it first, then follow the steps above.
