Chrome: Creating, Editing, and Deleting Snippets

Learn how to make changes to your Snippets using the Chrome Extension for TextExpander.

Snippets are the main building block of TextExpander. They are a combination of the content you want to use and the abbreviation you type to expand it. You’ll want to create a full library of Snippets so everything you need to type repeatedly, correctly, or at length is stored up and ready to go.

How to Create a Snippet

  1. Click on the TextExpander icon to the right of your Omnibar. If the TextExpander icon is not showing, select the puzzle piece and then select the TextExpander icon.
  2. Select the “New Snippet” option on the bottom left of the menu bar.
  3. Enter your Snippet content in the large text box. This is known as the Snippet Editor. You can change the Content Type, adjust the font, create a Label for your Snippet, assign an Abbreviation for expansion, and select which Group your new Snippet will belong to.

How to Edit a Snippet

  1. Click on the TextExpander Chrome extension icon, then select “Open TextExpander” from the bottom right corner.
  2. Select any Snippet by clicking on it. Make any adjustments needed in the Snippet Editor. Any changes made are saved by default and will automatically sync to any other devices you are using TextExpander on.

Note: If you cannot edit a Snippet because it is “greyed” out, this means you do not have editing permissions for the Snippet Group you are working in. This is always the case for Public Groups and may also be the case for any Shared Groups or Groups belonging to an Organization. You can request editing access to a Group by reaching out the the Group Manager. (See Permissions.)

How to Duplicate a Snippet

  1. Select the TextExpander icon and choose “Open TextExpander.”
  2. Right-click on the Snippet you want to duplicate and select “Duplicate” from the menu.

Note: The original and duplicate will have the same Abbreviation. This can cause a conflict, so you will want to change one of the Abbreviations to something new.

How to Delete a Snippet

  1. Click on the TextExpander icon, then select “Open TextExpander.”
  2. Click on the Group that houses the Snippet that you’d like to delete, then select the Snippet.
  3. To delete the Snippet, you can do one of the following:
    – Click on the Trash Bin icon in the upper right-hand corner of the TextExpander window.
-Right-click on the Snippet and select “Delete.”
-Press the “Delete” key on your keyboard with the Snippet highlighted.
