Snippet Editor Spell and Grammar Check

What this pilot is

We’re testing a new spell check and basic grammar check experience inside the TextExpander Snippet Editor. The goal is to help snippet authors catch simple writing mistakes before snippets are saved and reused in customer-facing communication.

This pilot is focused on spelling and grammar feedback while writing — not rewriting, changing tone, or blocking anyone from saving.

What you’ll see

When writing or editing a snippet, the editor may:

  • Underline possible spelling in red, grammar issues in blue, and more complex grammar suggestions in yellow
  • Suggest a replacement when one is available
  • Let you apply a suggested fix with a click
  • Let you ignore an issue and keep your original wording

The author stays in control. TextExpander will not automatically rewrite your snippets.

What we’re testing

We’re especially looking to understand whether this helps teams:

  • Catch typos before snippets are saved or shared
  • Reduce grammar issues in commonly reused replies
  • Improve confidence in shared snippet libraries
  • Save time by fixing issues during authoring instead of after rollout

What’s included in this first version

This early version is intentionally narrow. It includes:

  • English spell checking
  • Basic grammar issue detection
  • Inline highlights in the Snippet Editor
  • Suggested fixes where available
  • Click-to-apply for simple fixes

What’s not included yet

This pilot does not include:

  • Multi-language support
  • Custom dictionary support

What to expect during the pilot

Because this is an early test, you may notice:

  • Some suggestions are more useful than others
  • Some grammar issues may not be detected
  • Some words, product names, or abbreviations may be flagged until added to the dictionary
  • Formatting-heavy snippets may surface edge cases
  • The experience may change as we learn from feedback

How to try it

Download the early-access version for your computer:

After installing, use the Snippet Editor as you normally would:

  1. Create or edit a snippet.
  2. Look for red or blue underlines while writing.
  3. Click an underlined word or phrase to review the suggestion.
  4. Choose whether to apply the suggestion, make your own edit, or leave the text as-is.
  5. Save the snippet when you’re happy with the final wording.

What we’d love feedback on

As you try it, please let us know:

  • Did the suggestions help you catch real spelling or grammar issues?
  • Were any suggestions incorrect, distracting, or unnecessary?
  • Did the underlines and click-to-apply flow feel clear?
  • Did anything feel slow or interrupt your writing?
  • Were there any snippets where highlighting or suggestions behaved unexpectedly?
