Share Snippet Groups With Everyone in Your Organization

As an organization admin or member, you can easily share a Snippet Group with everyone in your Organization. Snippet Groups that are shared with everyone in your organization will also be shared with new members that are added to your account in the future.

How to share a Snippet Group with everyone in your organization

1. Sign in to your TextExpander.com account and select “My Snippets” from the left sidebar, under your name.
2. Find the Snippet Group you’d like to share and click the ‘Invite Users’ icon on the right.
3. In the sharing dialog, turn on the “Share with everyone in [Organization]” toggle at the bottom.
4. Confirm your selection when prompted.

How to change default permissions for everyone

By default, members of your organization will have “Can expand” permission when you share a Snippet Group. This means they can view and expand the Snippets within the Snippet Group. Note that Organization admins are by default Snippet Group admins so they can manage any Organization Snippet Group.

You can change the default permission for each individual user or Team, or you can bulk change the permission for everyone by clicking on the three dots next to “Everyone else” and selecting the new permission. Learn more about Snippet Group permissions.

How to unshare a Snippet Group

If you no longer want to share a Snippet Group with everyone, turn off the “Share with everyone in [Organization]” toggle in the sharing dialog. This removes access for everyone who had it only through that toggle. Members or teams you’ve shared the group with individually will keep their access.

How admins can review newly shared Snippet Groups

If you’re an organization admin, you have complete visibility into all of your organization’s shared Snippet Groups.

When a Snippet Group is shared, it’s added to your organization’s Snippet Group library under the Shared tab, kept separate from the Organization tab, which holds your admin-curated, official Snippet Groups.

From the Snippet Group’s action menu, or from its detail page, you can:

• Move it to the Organization tab once you’ve reviewed it and want it to be part of your official library
• Send it back to its creator if it doesn’t belong in the org library at all — this converts it back into a personal (“Just Me”) Snippet Group
• You can switch between the Organization, Shared, and All tabs, and search within whichever tab you’re viewing, to keep your organization’s Snippet library organized and easy to navigate.

Additional details

• This has replaced the Auto-join feature.
• Everyone in your organization, including new members added to your account in the future, will inherently gain access to that Snippet Group.
• Only Organization Admins can move a Snippet Group between the Shared and Organization tabs, or send it back to its creator.
