Using Snippets with Paid-Only Features
Some Snippet features are available on paid plans only. If you used those features during a paid plan or trial, the Snippet stays in your library when you move to Free, and it expands again once you remove the paid-only feature or upgrade.
What counts as a paid-only feature?
Paid-only features include:
- Date math
- Time math
- Nested Snippets
- JavaScript Snippets
- AppleScript
- Shell scripts
- Conditional Fill-ins
What happens to Snippets with these features on Free?
TextExpander keeps every Snippet that uses paid-only features when you’re on the Free plan. The Snippet stays saved in your library, and it becomes active and expands once the paid-only feature is removed or you upgrade.
When you open the Snippet, TextExpander shows a banner at the top explaining that the Snippet uses a paid-only feature. The paid-only part of the Snippet is highlighted in red, so you can see exactly what to remove or change.
How to use the Snippet again
You have 2 options:
- Remove the paid-only feature: Edit the Snippet and remove the paid-only part, such as date math, JavaScript, a nested Snippet, or a conditional Fill-in. Once the Snippet uses only Free features, it can become active and expand on Free.
- Upgrade to a paid plan: Paid plans include advanced Snippet features and unlimited active Snippets.
Why did this happen after my trial?
During your trial, you had unlimited access to all TextExpander features. When the trial ended and your account moved to Free, Snippets that contain paid-only features expand once you remove those features or upgrade.
Your Snippet is still saved, but it includes a feature that isn’t included on Free, so it won’t expand.
