TextExpander touch 2.0 Brings More Automation Options to iOS with Fill-in Snippets and Formatted Text
New SDK Allows iOS Developers to Add the New Features to Their Apps

San Francisco, CA – May 21, 2013 – Smile has released TextExpander touch 2.0, a major new version of Smile’s customizable typing shortcut tool for iOS. With the new features in TextExpander touch 2.0, users will be able to automate even more repetitive tasks, saving time and effort. It is available now on the App Store for $4.99; the update is free to current users.

The new version adds support for “fill-in-the-blank” snippets. A fill-in snippet can include text fields, multiple choice popups, and optional sections. These fill-in snippets make it possible to create a form letter template that can be personalized with names, dates, and other info when the snippet is expanded. Fill-in snippets have many other time-saving uses, such as inserting custom links or creating HTML tags with variable attributes.

“TextExpander users love fill-in snippets to automate their work on Mac OS X,” said Greg Scown, TextExpander developer and Smile founder. “With fill-in snippets now in TextExpander touch, they’ll be able to enjoy the time-saving benefits of these snippets on their iPhones and iPads too.”

TextExpander touch 2.0 also supports formatted text snippets, allowing users to add text formatting to their snippets and to use formatted snippets they’ve already created on the Mac. The new version also features improvement to Dropbox sync and various bug fixes.

Over 150 apps have currently integrated TextExpander touch support, so that users can expand their TextExpander snippets while typing within these apps. Among the apps that have integrated TextExpander touch are OmniFocus, Things, iA Writer, DayOne, Drafts, Byword, Notesy, Elements, and WriteRoom. A complete list is available at https://smilesoftware.com/applist.

A new SDK has been released to support fill-in snippets and formatted text, along with the other new features in TextExpander touch 2.0. As developers update their apps with the new SDK, the new features will be available in those apps as well. The SDK is available for download at https://smilesoftware.com/sdk.

Greg Scown will be presenting the new SDK and answering developer questions at altWWDC on June 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. in San Francisco. For more altWWDC details and schedule, see http://altwwdc.com.

TextExpander touch can be purchased and downloaded at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/textexpander/id326180690 and requires an iOS device running iOS 5.1 or later; formatted text requires iOS 6.0 or later.
