Jean MacDonald Departs Smile to Pursue App Camp for Girls Full Time
San Francisco, CA – March 6, 2014 – Smile today announced that Jean MacDonald, Smile’s Marketing & PR partner, will depart Smile to work full time on App Camp for Girls.
“Jean has been a key member of our team, building excellent relationships with Mac press, podcasters, pundits, and members of the community,” said Greg Scown, Smile Founder. “While we’re sad to see her go, we wish her great success in growing App Camp for Girls. Jean has founded an amazing organization which addresses an important need in the software community, and we expect to see App Camp for Girls thrive with her at the helm.”
Jean began working with Smile at Macworld San Francisco in 2004. She joined Smile as a partner in December 2008. Jean has been instrumental in building Smile’s portfolio of podcast sponsorships and at growing Smile’s social media presence. She organized Smile’s exhibits at Macworld Expo, and guided Smile through several major product launches.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the incredible level of interest in App Camp For Girls. Many more girls are interested in attending than we have spaces for right now. In order to meet this pressing need, I need to devote myself full-time,” said Jean MacDonald. “I am very grateful to my partners and colleagues at Smile. It really has been an honor and a pleasure to work with such talented and wonderful people for so many years.”
The inaugural season of App Camp for Girls took place in Summer 2013 in Portland, Oregon. Plans are underway for Summer 2014 with sessions in Portland and in another location to be determined.
