TextExpander Billing

TextExpander works on pre-purchased credits, where 1 user needs 1 credit a month or 12 credits per year.

There are two payment plans available:

• Annual payments mean you purchase 12 months worth of credits per user, at the start of your year of service, with an extra 20% off
• Monthly payments mean you pay for a credit per user at the beginning of each month

Once you use up your credits, you are charged again at the start of the next billing period, either for another year on the annual plan or for the next month on the monthly plan.

Billing for Individuals

One credit equals 1 month of service per user. As an individual, you are 1 user, so you need 1 credit a month.

If you miss a payment, TextExpander will shut off after a grace period and email communication. Once you pay, your service will resume.

Billing for Teams

As a team of users, say you have 10 people using TextExpander as members in your TextExpander organization. You would pre-purchase 10 credits each month, or 120 credits each year.

You are charged based on how many active users you had in the preceding period.

• Active user: has made least one TextExpander Snippet expansion in the billing period.
• Inactive user: a user falls inactive if the do not expand any Snippet within the billing period. You are not charged for inactive users.

Here is an example of how your credits and billing work as a team paying annually.

Annual payments: Under-usage

Say you start with a 10 person team—you are charged 120 credits at the outset, 12 months for each member. Two people stop using TextExpander 6 months into the year. At the end of 12 months, you’ll have 12 unused credits.

You now have 8 active users, and 12 credits to pay for them. Your service will continue for a 13th month because you still have enough credits to pay for the active users.

At the end of the 13th month, you will have 4 credits remaining. You will now be charged because you are about to run out of credits. You have 8 active users so your charge will be for 8 users for the next 12 months (96 credits), minus the 4 credits remaining, for a total of 92 credits.

Annual payments: Overages

Say you start with a 10 person team, you are charged 120 credits at the outset, 12 months for each member. You then gain 5 new team members.

Your 15 team members will run through your 120 credits in 8 months. When you run out of credits you will be charged for 15 users for 12 months (180 credits).

Monthly Payments

You are charged based on how many users you had the preceding period, including adjustments for any changes in number of users from the preceding period.

Here is an example of how your credits and billing will work as a team paying monthly.

Say you start with a 10 person team—you are charged 10 credits at the beginning of the first month, 1 credit for each user.

At the beginning of month 2, you are charged for 10 users. During this month you go down to 9 users.

At the start of month 3, you are billed 8 credits. That is, billed for 9 users (the number of users from the previous month), minus 1 unused credit. During this month your team grows to 12 members.

At the beginning of month 4, you are billed 15 credits. That covers 12 users, plus 3 credits for the overage for 3 new members of the previous month.

Billing will continue in this fashion.
