I don’t want my snippets to expand in certain apps, how do I set that up? (Mac)

You can exclude any snippet groups from expanding in any or all apps.

To exclude apps from expanding specific snippet groups:

  1. Click on a snippet group on the TextExpander window so that the Group Settings appear in the right hand panel.
  2. Locate the “Expand in” popup menu and select from the following options:
    a. “All applications”
 TextExpander will expand any of your snippets in all of your apps. This is the default.
    b. “All applications except…”
Select this option to show a list of all your apps, then check the ones you would like to exclude from expanding your snippets.
    c. “Only these applications…”
Select this option to show a list of all your apps, then only check the apps you want your snippets to expand in.
    d. “No Applications (Disable)”
    This group’s snippets will not work in any app.

To exclude apps from expanding all your snippets:

  1. Open TextExpander’s Preferences to the Expansion tab.
  2. Locate the “Default is to expand snippet groups in” popup menu and select from the following options:
    a. “All applications”
 TextExpander will expand any of your snippets in all of your apps. This is the default.
    b. “All applications except…”
Select this option to show a list of all your apps, then check the ones you would like to exclude from expanding your snippets.
    c. “Only these applications…”
Select this option to show a list of all your apps, then only check the apps you want your snippets to expand in.
