If you’ve landed here via the “Learn More” button in your TextExpander app, it’s because your TextExpander app can’t establish communication with the TextExpander server. Here are some possible reasons and actions you can take to resolve them.
It may be that either your firewall settings are blocking TextExpander’s communications with TextExpander.com, or there may be a firewall on your network if you are using an office internet connection.
On the Mac, Firewall settings are found in the “Security & Privacy” panel of System Preferences. Please open System Preferences to the “Security & Privacy” panel, then click the Firewall tab near the top of the window. If your firewall is “On”, please click the “Firewall Options…” button and check to see if TextExpander is shown in the list in that options panel — TextExpander must be listed there with “Allow incoming connections” selected.
Internet security apps such as Avast, Kaspersky, and Norton may be blocking access, as such apps tend to block anything unknown to them, and TextExpander as an online service is relatively new.
If the Avast “Web Shield” is enabled TextExpander’s Sign in panel may appear blank, or the Sign in button may be effectively non-responsive. It turns out that if you temporarily turn off Avast’s “Web Shield”, you can launch TextExpander and sign in. Then you can turn the “Web Shield” back on — TextExpander continues to function and keep snippets updated. Apparently there is just something about the sign in process that gets blocked.
The same principle applies to other internet security apps, and if you have more specific information we should include here, please let us know.
