Winning the hearts and minds of the TextExpander Team is Trello, this week’s App We Love. When it comes to managing tasks, Trello is a uniquely clever, flexible option for yourself, your team, or your entire company.
Instead of the typical folders, lists, and tasks found in many popular todo apps, Trello goes a different route with boards and lists, on which you create cards for tasks. Based on the kanban method of visualizing work, organizing tasks in Trello is akin to pinning and moving notecards on a white board in the office. It’s a flexible, more visual way to plan and reschedule tasks. We hear it’s common for teams to create at least three core lists for Doing (tasks this week), Upcoming (tasks in the next month or so), and Icebox (tasks that need further discussion), in addition to other lists and boards where it makes sense.
You can add team members to boards, assign cards to them, comment on cards to keep conversations with their tasks, attach files and links, get things done on-the-go with Trello’s mobile apps, and more. Things really get wild, though, when you dig into Trello’s integrations. This is the ever-expanding list of apps that can do some pretty powerful stuff with Trello. You can:
- Automatically create cards from Slack messages
- Create cards from HootSuite social media messages
- Sync Trello cards with JIRA, a bug tracking platform for developers
- Attach files or even whole folders from Dropbox, Google Drive, and other cloud storage
- and plenty more
We use Trello for various things at TextExpander, most apropos to this post, managing a content calendar and ideas for our blog, Twitter, and LinkedIn. If you’ve been looking for a way to get you or your team organized, Trello is a great option to explore.
